Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant
Typology: Architecture | Landscape | Infrastructure
The Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant is an important national infrastructure project, contributing to Singapore’s water self-sufficiency. The Plant, designed to utilise reverse osmosis and membrane technology to treat freshwater and seawater, manages rainwater by capturing one hundred percent of rainfall. The rainwater is recycled for irrigation, to be used for its rain gardens and irrigation needs in its water garden systems. The design concept introduces recreation for public use by linking Singapore’s cyclist-friendly Park Connector Network with generous yet naturalistic spaces for activities and relaxation. Thus, a mono-functional infrastructure is transformed into a recreational and park-like attraction for everyone.
