Typology: Architecture | Landscape | Infrastructure
This iconic landmark is an amalgamation of engineering and architecture. The five-acre site was designed to house seven massive pumps as part of a comprehensive water management system to prevent flooding and to transform the Marina Basin into a freshwater reservoir. Originally designed as a typical industrial building, the final design became a structure which spirals and swoops upwards resulting in a large roof garden easily accessible to all. The Marina Barrage is a popular destination and education center that showcases the importance of water to Singapore.
